Finance by purpose

Funding for equipment

Equipment funding comes up when kit is at the end of its life, when a contract requires capacity you do not have, or when repairs are quietly costing more than a replacement would.

Structures

How equipment is usually funded

The right structure depends on how quickly the funding pays for itself. These are the options most often used for this purpose.

  • Longer-term facilities matched to the equipment's useful life
  • Secured arrangements for substantial machinery
  • Unsecured facilities for smaller items where speed matters

Assessment

What affects the amount available

  • Cost and expected working life of the equipment
  • Whether the equipment directly increases revenue
  • Trading history and affordability of the repayments
  • Existing asset finance already in place

Preparation

What to have ready

None of this is mandatory before you start, but having it to hand makes the conversation quicker and the answer more accurate.

  1. A supplier quote or specification

  2. An estimate of the running cost saved or capacity gained

  3. Details of any equipment being replaced or part-exchanged

Business finance is a commitment. Repayments must be met from business income, and missed payments can affect your business. Consider affordability before applying.
