Secured finance

Secured business finance

For larger or more complex requirements, where offering security can unlock a bigger facility or a longer term than an unsecured arrangement.

Configured amounts

Terms
12 – 60 months
First 6 months
Interest-free, capital only

No interest is charged for the first six months — you repay capital only. Interest applies to the remaining balance from month seven, spread across the rest of the term. Every request is reviewed by a funding specialist.

Who it suits

Is this the right fit for your business?

Funding works best when the structure matches the reason for borrowing. These are the situations this option is usually suited to.

  • Established businesses with assets or property available as security
  • Larger funding requirements or longer terms
  • Projects with a longer payback period, such as premises or heavy equipment
  • Refinancing several commitments into one arrangement

Common uses

What businesses use it for

  • Property purchase, refurbishment and fit-out
  • Substantial equipment and machinery
  • Acquisitions and management buy-outs
  • Consolidating existing facilities
  • Multi-year growth projects

How it works

From enquiry to completion

  1. 1

    Security is identified

Typically commercial property, plant or other substantial business assets. What is acceptable depends on the arrangement.

  2. 2

    The asset is assessed

Security is valued and reviewed. This adds steps to the process compared with an unsecured facility.

  3. 3

    Terms reflect the security

Offering security can support a larger amount and a longer term than the same business would achieve unsecured.

  4. 4

    Charges are registered

A charge over the asset is registered as part of completion, and released when the facility is repaid.

Things to weigh up

What to consider before you borrow

Business finance is a commitment. These are the points worth thinking through honestly before you apply.

  1. The asset is genuinely at risk

If the facility is not repaid, the secured asset can be recovered. This is the central trade-off and should not be treated as a formality.

  2. It takes longer

Valuation and legal work add time. If you need funding urgently, an unsecured facility may fit better even at a higher cost.

  3. Additional costs

Valuation and legal fees may apply. Any such costs will be set out before you proceed.

  4. Take independent advice

For larger or more complex arrangements, independent legal advice is sensible before granting security.
